NATASHA KARPINSKAIA - Natasha Karpinskaia is a contemporary American painter and printmaker, working primarily in abstract mode. She approaches art as an intellectual endeavor due to her art history background, and always starts with a particular idea that she explores from different angles, usually in series. At the same time her work is equally immediate, emotional, and spontaneous, characterized by complex color palette and intricate shapes.

Born and raised in Moscow, Russia, she received two masters’ degrees from Moscow University of Linguistics and St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts. She came to the US to pursue her Ph.D. in American art studies, worked as professor at the New York Academy of Art, and later became a full-time visual artist. A recipient of Connecticut Commission on the Arts Award, she has exhibited in the US and Europe, and her work are in many private and public collections. She lives and works in Ridgefield, CT.
