DRAWING INTO PAINTING / 2-PART WORKSHOP
KATHIE MILLIGAN

In this course all the drawing skills needed to transfer what is observed in the three-dimensional world onto a sheet of two dimensional paper will be taught. Skills included are Composition, Measurement (Sighting), Positive and Negative Space and Value. The study of Value will cover Painting in Black and White followed by Painting in the Gray Scale. Finally Color will be discussed, namely the qualities of Warm and Cool Colors plus Mixing and Painting with the Three Primaries. Students may work at their individual levels. The subject matter will be still life set-ups. Materials used will be Pencil, Charcoal and Tempera (Poster Paint). Please bring a 9 x 12 sketch pad and HB, 2B and 4B pencils plus and eraser to class.

EXPLORING COLOR THEORY WORKSHOP

This workshop is designed for artists of all levels who want to advance their confidence and understanding of color as it relates to the palette and painting. We’ll explore the vital relationship between color and value as well as the science of color. The workshop will consist of multiple exercises structured to heighten your awareness of color as it relates to your artwork. Blending paint, interpreting value, and your knowledge of chroma and hue will be taught. By the end of the workshop, you will have a more in-depth understanding of your palette and confidently go about creating the colors that will take your artwork to the next level.

Please bring your lunch or there are restaurant options nearby.
