NEW DISCOVERING THE SECRETS of MULTI_MEDIA PAINTING All levels–young adult through adult, with Kathie Milligan

This class is designed to gain knowledge of painting by approaching it through different media including collage, monoprint and oil or water based paint. Students can use source material of their choice such as a photograph, an image from a favorite graphic novel or cartoon, or an Old Master painting to transcribe. The goal is to define the qualities of painting such as composition, value and color through the exploration of a variety of media. The class will be divided into two sessions. Students may take either or both sessions.

NEW METHODS of MODERN MASTERS for KIDS! Geared for children in the 3rd to 6th grades with Pat Wetzler

Each week in Methods of the Modern Masters, students will learn about carefully chosen artists and the styles which made them unique in the art world of their time. The children will learn about their lives, when they lived, the art movements they were part of and what materials and methods they used to make them stand out and be noticed. While doing this they will see examples of the art and reproduce their own versions of each artists’ style using a variety of art mate- rials. Children will be encouraged to visit museums to be exposed to the real paintings of these and other artists. Meet in GAS Second Floor Gallery.

This class will explore new approaches to creativity with children. Using drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and sculpture children will learn new skills and improve on old ones as they experiment with new media and different techniques. To reinforce their understanding, they will learn about important artists who are either historically significant or are forerunners in contemporary art. Come join in and stretch your imagination in a relaxed, fun environment. Materials supplied.

Learn about drawing from observation by exploring form, shape, space and composition. Learn about materials and how to use them to create space in your drawings. Learn about painting techniques, color mixing and more. To reinforce their understanding, children will learn about important artists who are either historically significant or are forerunners in contemporary art. Materials used will be pencil, charcoal, pen and ink and paint.
